Great white sharks and why we should care about them, including the remarkable story of Great White Shark attack survivor and conservationist Rodney Fox, was the topic of my TEDx presentation in Bangkok in 2010
It was a year ago today that I gave my presentation “How I Learned To Love The Great White Shark” at the inaugural TEDx event in Bangkok. The video got misplaced for a while but I can now present it here in its full glory. It’s about 12 minutes long and I explain why great white sharks have had terrible PR thanks to Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and the remarkable story of Rodney Fox, who, despite being attacked by a great white and needing over 400 stitches, has gone on to become one of the world’s leading great white shark conservationists. I conclude with a few thoughts on how the imminent extinction of sharks will directly impact on our own lives unless there’s major political change in order to start effectivel protecting both them and the oceans so that it will continue to protect us. I hope you find it interesting.
