Manta Rays At Koh Lanta, Thailand

by Chris on November 15, 2007

Manta Rays traditionally appear en masse at the beginning of the dive season in Koh Lanta, and this year is no exception. This week up to four mantas have been seen together around Koh Lanta's dive sites

This last month I've been busy helping set up a new dive trips website for Koh Lanta in Thailand - AmazingLanta.com. Rob, my best mate and business partner, works as a dive instructor on the island and is writing a weekly blog about scuba diving around Koh Lanta - what they're seeing on Lanta liveaboards and daytrips, what the weather's like, and what's going on around the island. This week he's written up a great post about the Mantas of Koh Lanta - at the start of every season, manta rays appear in groups at the pinnacles of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, and it makes for truly spectacular diving. Read Rob's post Majestic Mantas to for more info and some great pix.

I wrote about Koh Lanta for Asian Diver magazine a couple of years ago. You can read my article here on Divehappy - Koh Lanta: Manta Ray Paradise. I had, without exaggeration, the most memorable dive of my life here with the mantas, as I explain in the article - and it's one of the reasons I wanted to set up AmazingLanta.com with Rob to promote Lanta's great scuba diving.

Oh yeah, Lanta…love that little place. Used to work for a friend at Blue Planet and I still think back regularly to that time…
