Thailand’s Underwater Wedding Ceremony

by Chris on January 29, 2007

Every year the Thai province of Trang holds an underwater marriage ceremony on Valentine's Day for couple to exchange or renew vows beneath the crystal clear waters of Southern Thailand

It was a one-off event that proved so popular it's been going on for over a decade now. Trang's Underwater Marriage ceremony happens every Valentine's Day on February 14th and lets couples who want to tie the knot or renew their vows do so 10 metres below the beautiful waters of Southern Thailand. Indeed, it's become so popular that the Guinness World Records awarded the event "The Largest Underwater Wedding Ceremony" in 2000.

You've still got time to sign up yourself if you want to take part in this year's ceremony. Check the official site for the full details. As well as the fun of getting married underwater (you do of course have to be a qualified diver already!) you also get to experience the magic of the Thai wedding ritual as well as taking part in a parade in your honour around the town - certainly it will be an unforgettable couple of days.

If you've been to the Trang Underwater Wedding, I'd love to hear what you thought of it.
