From Wikipedia: "Of the nine known species of hammerhead, three can be dangerous to humans: the scalloped, great, and smooth hammerheads." Mako sharks can also be dangerous to humans.

My cousin is a medical officer at the hospital where they brought the remains rt told me that it was concluded that the shark was snacking on a dead body, thought there wasn't much that could be determined from the autopsy on the remains. I guess there could be temperate undercurrents running through the Malacca straits to enabkle this spieces to do some intercontinental travel... but a GREAT WHITE, and I used to swim on the beaches off Pangkor and Penang Island where no shark attacks cases were ever recorded/documented in living memory...

Wow - thanks for the link. I wonder if there are any other sources to corroborate it? I am guessing the boat nets must have caught it quite deep in the water.

Well, a 300kg great white was caught a few years ago30km off Pangkor Island, Island, Malaysia, this would be about 300 miles south of Phuket. It was found to have consumed human remains. Now, what was a great white doing in the Malacca straits?? i I had my doubts until I saw the pictures...http://www.ecologyasia.com/news-archives/2001/feb-01/straitstimes.asia1.com.sg_asia_story_0,1870,23256,00.html
