One of the last real frontiers in Asian diving, East Timor offers some spectacular underwater discoveries for those bold enough to visit the troubled country
I mentioned how great the diving was in East Timor a while ago - and, with my usual impeccable timing, managed to publish that piece just as Timor sadly slid back into widespread civil disruption and violence. It's unlikely that Timor is going to be high on anyone's tourist agenda for a few more months yet, but there are plenty of reasons to want to go diving there.
Nick Hobgood's East Timor Underwater Photography Blog is packed full of excellent macro photos that showcase some of Timor's tiny gems to be found there. The blog's pictures are a mere taster of Hobgood's Flickr account, which has nearly 300 glorious pix, and are captioned, although I'm not sure if they're all from East Timor. Worth browsing all the same.
