Nice shots Chris. Usually I only met one sea snake, but you met schooling of sea snakes, wow!! Really wanna go to Banda Sea, but not for the sea snakes though :-)

You can pay me a million dollars and I won’t want to be near these deadly snakes. A kiss from them is a guarantee death!!!! They are curious? What if there is some miscommunication and they think you are going to harm them? and they bite you. Forget it! Not worth my life to be near them

Hi Ilham - thanks for the kind words. I've been to Raja Ampat and briefly in Bunaken. Still waiting for an invite to Wakatobi, although I hear that if you've been to Komodo or Raja you might be a bit disappointed with Wakatobi. I have to say the Banda Sea is one of the best places I've dived, up there with Raja for sure.

Hi Martijn,
There is a Gunung Api within the Banda Islands… but it’s not the Gunung Api I’m talking about in the story above. The sea snake Gunung Api is about 200 miles south of the Banda Islands – and nothing else passes by there. “Gunung Api” is a generic name for volcano in Indonesia – there are a lot of places going under that name.
Did you do the Banda Islands Land Tour?

Nice pic’s and good story. I have been there myself, but was not aware of the snakes. I am not sure whether the captain was completely right. Ferries pass by the Banda’s all year.

Some great photos there. I’m heading back to Bali myself in a few weeks, and hoping to get over to East Timor to try out the diving there. A shame I won’t be able to make the trip out to Gunung Api as I don’t have the time. Ah well!
