Was Sipadan Island damaged during the tragic tsunami of 2004? Definitely not - the Malaysian Borneo island reknown as one of the world's best dive sites was far away from the tsunami's effects
I've had a few queries about whether Sipadan was damaged by the tsunami. The answer is - not at all. The earthquake which caused the tsunami happened in the Andaman Sea, on the west coast of Indonesia, Thailand. Burma and Malaysia - Sipadan is located on the east coast of Borneo, several countries and a different ocean away - Sipadan lies in the Pacific Ocean, while the tsunami's impact was felt only across the Indian Ocean.

How safe is it to go diving in Sipadan given the recent news of the Japanese Tsunami. I am booked on 25th march. Kindly respond . thanks
It will be fine. Sipadan is nowhere near the earthquake’s radius.
I,m booked on 30th Mar. Confirmed isit safe even with the recent report of acid rain due to the explode of nuclear plant ?
Sipadan is a long way away from Japan. Although it’s important to stay informed of current events in Japan, I think it’s unlikely that any of the problems in Japan will affect Sipadan.
