Stingrays Mutilated In Wake Of Steve Irwin’s Death

by Chris on September 13, 2006

10 stingrays have been found dead and mutilated around Australia's Queensland coast in the wake of Steve Irwin's death from a stingray's barb last week

What is wrong with people? Last week, when I wrote a small obituary about the death of Steve Irwin, I noted at the end - "Let’s hope it doesn’t cause any sort of anti-stingray campaign - it’s the last thing Steve Irwin would have wanted." At the time, I felt pretty silly writing that - it seemed pretty unlikely after all. Turns out that so far this week as many as 10 dead stingrays have been found on Queensland's beaches. Divester has the full sorry story. Anyone stupid enough to kill stingrays in the belief that it's some sort of retribution needs to a) stop going in the water and b) seek psychiatric help for violent tendencies. Sadly so far there's no cure for human stupidity.
